Should you fold or hang your jeans?

The better question is how you wear them. A few simple ways to store denim so it stays easy to find and in good shape.

People tend to have strong feelings about this one. Some swear by a neat folded stack, others want every pair hanging where they can see it. Both work. Denim is sturdy, so it won’t be ruined either way. What matters more is how often you reach for each pair and how much space you have.

When folding works best

Folding is the most space-efficient option. It suits shelves, deep drawers, and anyone with more jeans than hanging room. Fold each pair in half lengthwise, tuck the back pockets in, then fold into thirds. Keep stacks to four or five pairs so the bottom ones don’t get crushed or forgotten.

If you use a drawer, try file-folding instead of stacking. Stand each folded pair on its edge, front to back. You can see every pair at once and pull one out without disturbing the rest.

When hanging makes sense

Hanging is great for jeans you wear often, dressier dark washes, and anything with a crease you want to keep. Clip hangers by the waistband or drape over a sturdy pant hanger. Avoid thin wire hangers, which can leave a ridge across the leg.

Organize by how you wear them

Instead of picking one method for everything, sort your denim into groups. Everyday pairs live closest to hand. Occasional or seasonal pairs can go higher up or further back. Within each group, arrange by wash from light to dark. It makes getting dressed faster and shows you quickly if you have five pairs that are nearly the same.

A simple mix works well for most closets: hang the few pairs you wear every week, and fold the rest on a shelf or in a drawer. Your jeans, your space, your routine.
